Looks like News10 ABC has picked up on the Ivanhoe Mortgage (Central Pacific Mortgage) story. Thanks to Max and Aaron @ Implode-O-Meter for the tip:
Folsom-Based Mortgage Lender Shuts Down
Folsom-based Central Pacific Mortgage has abruptly shut down operations, telling employees it can't afford to pay them.
A memo to the staff from the president and CEO John Courson on Monday said the company would cease operations immediately.
"We do not have sufficient cash to fund the February 28th payroll. Employees should remove their personal items from the office at the end of the day," Courson wrote.
A recorded telephone announcement Tuesday morning at the company's headquarters on Iron Point Road in Folsom said to call back during normal business hours.
A recent staff directory indicated there were more than 80 people working in Folsom.
The company's Web site said it also operated more than 100 retail and wholesale origination offices in more than 20 states. Central Pacific Mortgage had been in business since 1977.
In an earlier memo to employees, Courson warned of the financial difficulties facing the company because of a rising number of mortgage defaults. In his final memo to his staff on Monday, Courson said "there are no words to express my sorrow. I fully understand the hardships and difficulties this action will create for everyone."

Is there still a Central Pacific Mortgage in Bakersfield? Where they closed? How many lost there jobs locally? Is there a count of how many local lenders and real estate offices that have closed over the last few months?
Is there a local branch? I will have to check.
See a link on my homepage to the lender implode website for a list of closures

Hello Bakersfield Bubble!
How about posting a source credit when you lift an article?
By the way, we've updated the original article:
http://www.news10.net/display_story.aspx?storyid=24975
Thanks,
George Warren
Reporter, KXTV (ABC) Sacramento
George-
If you look at the highlighted link you will see that I did. I always provide a link back to the original
I adjusted the "highlight" from "MSM" to "News 10 ABC".
The link is still the same.
Thanks for the update.
Also, I had this story up before you did or anyone. Monday @ 1:38pm - how about some credit for this lowly blogger??
"As News10 first reported Tuesday"
From your revised link.
BB: Thanks for the credit. I shoulda seen the hyperlink.
By the way, congrats on the early posting of the Central Pacific meltdown.
I'm stunned this story hasn't been picked up by other mainstream media here in Sacto and/or Orlando.
George
Try KCRA
Nice reporting, by the way (Crispy & George).
Interesting story and dialogue. And as always you've included a link the source.
thebubblebuster.com
George-
What's also amazing is that the Business Media is reporting the Sub Prime meltdown big time, but they are not focusing on the actual company closings.
WSJ,Economist, NY Times, Business Week, Fortune, etc.. are reporting on the ABX changes (derivatives market) and the news from NEW, FMT, NFI and all the other public blow ups meanwhile 27 companies have gone under. Most of them with only small amount of news in the media.
I am glad you are covering this story, as I think it is extremely important.
It is the #1 reason why we have a housing bubble - Credit was just way to easy in the last few years and now it is getting Very Very tight.
Once again, thanks for the update!
Did you happen to see the comment in my orginal post from an ex-employee? Looks like this company was lying to their employees all the way to the bitter end.
I've got all the memos the CEO sent to the staff.
In earlier communications, he speaks in general terms about the crisis brewing in the mortgage industry as he addresses specific problems with his company's 401(k) plan.
He told his people that The Mortgage Store would be taking over CPM in two stages, beginning with the wholesale branches March 1, followed by the rest of the operation as soon as regulatory hurdles were overcome.
Obviously, they never got to phase II. We can only speculate why.
George
